If, after having taken part in a group session or an introductory course, you decide you would like to take up curling as a sport, the best option is to become a member of the club. This will allow you to take part in training sessions and recreational and competitive games with the other members of the club every Thursday evening between 19.30 and 22.30 hours during the curling season.
Who can become a member?
As curling can be enjoyed at many levels and with different intensities people of all ages can learn to play. Also people with physical deficiencies are welcome to take part. If you can’t make a sliding you can use a kind of “throwing stick” from a standing position or from a wheelchair and in this way play along with the other members of the club. Our club offers memberships for juniors, adults and disabled people.

The Tilburg Curling Club was founded in September 1972 by some members / friends of the ice-hockey club “The Tilburg Trappers”. Through their contacts with the Canadian military based in Germany they learnt about the curling sport. This led to the curling club in Tilburg starting in the Pellikaanhal on the 21st of September 1972 with 18 founding members. In 1998 The Stappegoor IJssportcentrum became their new home.
For many years it was only possible to have adult members on account of the available playing times. In 2007 the club was able to add another hour to the schedule in the early evening and this made it possible to attract youngsters. From then on CCT has taken part in the Try-out sports, a municipal programme to encourage pupils to take part in sports. This
has led to a regular attendance of youngsters who play curling on Thursday evenings from 7.30 to 8.30 pm. In 2015 some of them made it into the National Junior team.
Over the years the members of the Curling Club Tilburg have achieved some successes. For the first time in 1982 and several times after that a CCT team has won the National Competition.
For many years Tilburg curlers have taken part in national and international tournaments. In 1996 a Women’s team from CCT took part in the European Championships in Kopenhagen. Some of the women went on to play in the European Championships in 1997, 1998, 2000 and 2003.
In April 2003 2 women from CCT even took part in the Netherlands Senior team playing at the World Senior Championships in Winnipeg (Canada). Then there was a short lapse until 2012, when for the following 5 years Tilburg was again represented at the European B and C championships, at the World Championships for Mixed teams and at the Worlds for Mixed Doubles. In 2014 the women’s team won the ECC-c on the Dutch curling rink at Zoetermeer. This even led to a nomination for sports woman of the year in Tilburg for one of our members.
In 2017 the Netherlands Junior team took part in the European Youth Olympic Festival in Turkey with 3 boys from CCT. They won a silver medal and were chosen as the 2017 Sports Team of the year in Tilburg.
Since then we have had members playing in the Netherlands talent programme every year. This means that our members are also regularly involved in International Tournaments such as at the World Junior Championships and in 2019 even at the World Men’s Championships.
Our history has given us many great and enjoyable memories. And there will be more, because today’s activities are tomorrow’s history, continuing the story of Curling Club Tilburg.
